Israel and Iran have halted tit-for-tat strikes after the worst escalation in tensions since the April ceasefire. Both sides, however, have warned that attacks could quickly resume, with Tehran saying its operations will restart if the IDF continues its attacks.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that the Jewish state carried out “historic strikes to prevent a nuclear attack” and that “Iran will not have a nuclear weapon,” threatening to renew strikes if Iran “attacks once more.”
US President Donald Trump, who earlier said both sides “had their fun” and should stop, told Israel’s Channel 12 that he warned Netanyahu he “could be left alone against Iran very soon” if the confrontation spirals into a full scale war, and claimed he persuaded Israel to scale back its operation.
Tehran has accused the US of bearing “direct responsibility” for Israeli ceasefire violations after the IDF launched intensive airstrikes on what it said were Hezbollah targets in Lebanon on Sunday.
Iran responded with a wave of retaliatory strikes on Israel, triggering further Israeli attacks on targets across the Islamic Republic, including reported explosions in Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz, and Karaj, as well as at the Karun Petrochemical Company in the Mahshahr Special Economic Zone.
Here are the key developments:
• Israel’s latest strikes on Iran wounded 15 people, Iranian emergency services chief Jafar Miadfar has been quoted as saying.
• An RT crew reporting from the Nabatieh district of southern Lebanon said Israeli strikes have continued despite the ceasefire, hitting residential buildings and making it “very dangerous for anyone to move around these areas.”
• Yemen’s Houthis have reinstated a ban on Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea, warning any Israeli linked vessel will be treated as a military target.
• The death toll from Israel’s offensive on Gaza has exceeded 72,980, with 173,171 people injured since October 2023, according to the Palestinian enclave’s Health Ministry.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) has said US forces disabled the Palau flagged oil tanker M/T Marivex in the Gulf of Oman after it allegedly tried to breach the naval blockade on Iran.
According to CENTCOM, a US Navy F/A 18 fighter jet from the USS Abraham Lincoln “fired a precision munition” into the ship’s engineering and steering sections “after the crew failed to comply with orders.” The command says it has disabled seven “non compliant” vessels and redirected 134 others since April 13.
The Marivex, which was under US sanctions targeting Iran and sailing without cargo, had earlier been reported on fire off Oman. Indian authorities said all 24 crew members were rescued, with the incident still under investigation.
US President Donald Trump has reportedly told Israel’s Channel 12 that during his tense phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the past 24 hours, he warned that if strikes on Iran escalate into a full‑scale war, “you could be left alone against Iran very soon.”
Trump reportedly said he urged Netanyahu to be “very careful,” adding that countries in the region had also pressed him to stop the attacks.
Flight restrictions in Iran have been lifted and the country’s airspace has returned to normal operations, Iranian state media report. Earlier on Monday, all flights to and from Iranian airports were halted amid fears of further Israeli attacks. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has since confirmed that strikes on Iran have been halted, while warning they will resume if Tehran “resumes attacks against us.”
Israel will reopen schools nationwide on Tuesday after the Home Front Command lifted most restrictions imposed amid the latest escalation with Iran, the Education Ministry has announced. Classes near the Lebanese border will be held close to shelters, while in the rest of the country they will resume according to the regular schedule.
In person lessons were suspended nationwide on Sunday, along with limits on large gatherings. The ministry also said matriculation exams scheduled for this week remain canceled.
RT journalist Ali Rida Sbeity, reporting from the Nabatieh district of southern Lebanon, says Israeli strikes have continued despite the ceasefire, hitting residential buildings in Kharayeb and Shawqin. “During the day you’ve been hearing artillery shelling by the Israeli army… the last one was a few minutes before we started this live,” he said, adding that drone strikes are “almost nonstop” and it is “very dangerous for anyone to move around these areas.”
An Israeli strike has wounded four Lebanese Red Cross rescuers in the southern city of Tyre, the organization has said. The medics suffered moderate to minor injuries from flying glass after an explosion outside one of its centers and were taken to Jabal Amel Hospital for treatment. Lebanese state media earlier reported an Israeli strike on a vehicle in front of the center.
An RT crew has filmed smoke rising near the village of Yuhmur al-Shaqif in the Nabatieh district of southern Lebanon, amid reported Israeli strikes in the area.
The IDF has issued an evacuation warning for residents of an area on the outskirts of the coastal Lebanese city of Tyre, army spokesman Avichay Adraee has announced. He warned that “anyone who is near Hezbollah operatives, its facilities, and its weapons is putting their life at risk,” and instructed civilians to move north of the Zahrani River.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed that Hezbollah planned to invade the Galilee, a region in northern Israel, “with thousands of terrorists” while at the same time seeking to “destroy the cities of Israel with 150,000 rockets and missiles.” He said that overnight Israel carried out “historic strikes to prevent a nuclear attack on Israel,” and reiterated his pledge that “Iran will not have a nuclear weapon.” Tehran insists its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes.
Yemen’s Houthis have released footage purportedly showing missile launches “at important targets in occupied Jaffa,” in central Israel, Iran’s Fars News has reported. Earlier on Monday, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree reportedly announced a complete ban on Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea, warning that any Israeli‑linked vessel would be treated as a military target.
The global airline industry has nearly halved its 2026 profit forecast, citing the Middle East war for a spike in fuel costs and disruption to key air corridors, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has said. The sector now expects a combined net profit of $23 billion in 2026, down from an earlier projection of around $41 billion and from $45 billion in 2025, with IATA chief Willie Walsh pointing to “significant” increases in jet fuel prices and disruption to Gulf carriers.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged “all sides” to show restraint and give diplomacy “a little more chance” as fighting between Iran and Israel threatens efforts to secure a lasting peace deal.
In a post on X, Sharif warned that the latest violence highlights the risks of a fragile ceasefire and called for remaining on the path of “peace and diplomacy” rather than “violence and destruction.”
Pakistan has maintained ties with both Washington and Tehran and has played a key mediating role in talks between the two sides.
Netanyahu is expected to convene a full security cabinet at 9 PM local time to discuss the latest escalation, according to Israeli media. The meeting comes as reports suggest Israel may halt further strikes on Iran following pressure from Trump, though officials say no final decision has been made.
Notably, neither Netanyahu nor Defense Minister Israel Katz has issued a formal public statement on the renewed fighting since it erupted overnight, despite multiple rounds of strikes and retaliatory attacks.
Israeli schools will remain closed on Tuesday despite Iran’s announcement that it is halting attacks, Education Minister Yoav Kisch has said. In a post on X, Kisch said his ministry aims to reopen classrooms on Wednesday under guidelines requiring students to have access to nearby shelters.
Israel suspended in-person classes nationwide on Sunday, alongside restrictions on large gatherings, after the latest escalation with Iran.
Iranian airspace has been fully closed and all flights from airports across the country have been suspended until further notice, according to the Tasnim news agency.
The move came shortly after reports that Israel has continued strikes on Lebanon despite Tehran’s warning that it would not halt its operations against Israel unless attacks on Lebanon cease.
Trump and Netanyahu have held a second phone call, Israeli media report. While no details of the conversation have been released, it reportedly took place shortly before Iran announced it was ending its military operation against Israel.
According to Channel 12, Israel agreed to halt further strikes on Iran at Trump’s request. However, the broadcaster reported that Israeli operations in southern Lebanon will continue “with full force” in the coming days. Neither Trump nor Netanyahu has publicly commented on the latest call.
The conversation follows a call late on Sunday, after Israel’s bombardment of Beirut and Iran’s subsequent retaliation, during which Trump reportedly urged Netanyahu not to launch further attacks on Iran.
Iran’s priority remains “national security and the peace of our people,” President Masoud Pezeshkian has said in a post on X, pledging to defend the country’s rights and “not retreat in the face of any threat.”
At the same time, he signaled that Tehran remains open to diplomacy despite the latest hostilities, writing that “diplomacy and defense are the two wings of national power; we have neither abandoned the field nor the negotiating table.” The comments suggest Iran is still willing to pursue negotiations even as it accuses Israel of violating the ceasefire.
“God willing, with unity and rationality, Iran will emerge triumphant from this trial as well,” Pezeshkian added.
Reports claim Israel has launched a new wave of airstrikes on southern Lebanon.
Unconfirmed footage posted online purportedly shows plumes of smoke rising from strikes in Burj al-Shemali near Tyre and the town of Al-Kharayeb.
Local reports also claim Israeli drones are operating over Beirut and its southern suburbs at low altitude.
Meanwhile, the meme war apparently continues. ExplosiveMedia – the AI design team behind a series of viral Lego-style animations about the US-Israeli conflict with Iran – has released a new video praising Yemen’s Houthis for closing the Bab al-Mandeb Strait to Israeli shipping.
The video depicts a cartoon Houthi commander trapping a rat – apparently symbolizing Israel – beneath a glass dome, with a map of the strategic waterway in the background.
The Houthis earlier said they established “operational control” over the waterway and warned that any Israeli-linked vessel transiting the route would face a military response from Yemeni forces. The Bab al-Mandeb links the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and serves as a key trade route connecting the Suez Canal with Asian markets.
Iran’s armed forces say they have concluded their military response against Israel but warned that any new Israeli strikes on Lebanon would trigger further action.
In a statement carried by Iranian media, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said Iran had delivered a “painful response” to Israel over its attacks on southern Lebanon and Beirut’s Dahieh district, and warned that any renewed aggression would be met with “harsher” strikes.
Trump insists Israel and Iran are both seeking an “immediate ceasefire” despite the latest exchange of attacks putting the already fragile truce under renewed strain.
“Both sides, Israel and Iran, are looking to do an immediate CEASEFIRE!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. He added that negotiations on a “Final Deal” were ongoing – though “subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way” – and said the naval blockade on Iran would remain in force until an agreement is reached, insisting “things should move quickly.”
Trump has repeatedly claimed in recent weeks that a deal to end the conflict is close, though no agreement has yet materialized.
The IDF has released footage it says shows Israeli strikes on Iranian air defense systems carried out overnight and on Monday morning. According to the military, dozens of fighter jets targeted nine air defense sites in western and central Iran, including systems equipped with surface-to-air missiles.
Israel said the strikes were intended to expand its “aerial superiority” over Iran and reduce threats to Israeli territory.
Israel has carried out 3,491 airstrikes, 407 controlled demolitions, and six village-razing operations in Lebanon since the US-announced ceasefire took effect on April 16, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said during a cabinet meeting. Figures published by his office on X covered the period from April 17 to June 7.
Salam warned that the latest Iran-Israel escalation is triggering new waves of displacement, adding that Lebanon has reached its “maximum absorption capacity” in Beirut, Sidon, and other regions. More than 1 million people have been displaced in Lebanon since the conflict escalated in March, according to the Lebanese authorities.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called for an immediate return to the Iran-Israel ceasefire after both sides exchanged strikes for the first time since the April truce took effect. “I am deeply concerned about the resumption of violence. It is really important that all parties get back to a ceasefire,” he said, arguing that ongoing negotiations should be given “every chance of success.”
The call comes after Starmer endorsed US-Israeli strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities as a means of preventing Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon – an ambition Iran has repeatedly denied – while simultaneously insisting that a diplomatic solution remains the only path to a lasting settlement.
The Israeli military says it is preparing for several more days of fighting with Iran, describing the confrontation as a potentially prolonged campaign.
According to military officials cited by Haaretz, strikes are currently being carried out by Israel alone, although there is “full coordination” with US Central Command, which has assisted in intercepting Iranian missiles.
The military claimed that Hezbollah has not joined the fighting so far but said it remains prepared for that possibility.
The EU imposed sanctions on Iran under its new ‘freedom of navigation’ regime for the first time, foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has announced. The measures target what Brussels describes as threats to maritime traffic in key Middle Eastern waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz.
The sanctions target the Hormozgan Provincial Command of the IRGC Navy, which the EU accuses of operating a de facto toll system for vessels transiting the strait by requiring vessels to submit cargo and destination information before transiting the waterway. Brussels also blacklisted Mohammad Akbarzadeh, the IRGC Navy’s deputy commander for political affairs and spokesman, and Hamid Hosseini, a representative of Iran’s Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Products Exporters’ Union, alleging they supported policies that impede freedom of navigation.
The sanctions include asset freezes and travel bans.
The Russian Embassy in Tel Aviv has advised Russian citizens to refrain from traveling to Israel until the security situation becomes clearer. The mission also urged Russians currently in the country to remain vigilant, follow instructions from Israeli authorities, stay close to shelters and avoid leaving them until given the all-clear.

“Israel and Iran must immediately stop shooting,” Trump has said in an uncharacteristically brief post on Truth Social.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has held a series of calls with his counterparts in the UK, France, and Türkiye, as well as with Qatar’s leadership and Pakistani mediators, to discuss the latest escalation in the region, Iranian media reports. Meanwhile, the Belgian Embassy in Israel has advised citizens against non-essential travel following the resumption of hostilities. The mission also urged Belgians to closely follow instructions issued by the Israeli authorities through the Home Front Command app.
The Bab el-Mandeb Strait has “entered the equation of war” following Israeli strikes, Mohammad-Hassan Nami, an adviser and special assistant to Iran’s interior minister, has declared. In a post on X, he said Yemen’s Houthis established operational control over the strategic waterway and warned that any Israeli-linked vessel transiting the route would face a military response from Yemeni forces.
The Bab el-Mandeb Strait is a key maritime chokepoint linking the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. Connecting the Suez Canal route with Asian markets, it serves as a major shortcut for global trade and energy shipments between Europe and Asia, avoiding the much longer route around Africa’s Cape of Good Hope.
A powerful explosion has been reported in central Tehran as exchanges of fire between Iran and Israel continue. Iranian media said air defenses were activated in parts of the capital, with Tasnim reporting that some of the blasts were linked to interception efforts.

“The director-general of the agency is acting with bias. He is acting with deliberate bias against Iran and the Iranian nuclear issue,” Baghaei said at a press-conference.
The spokesman has repeatedly criticized Grossi for failing to explicitly condemn US and Israeli military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and what Tehran sees as political commentary beyond the IAEA’s technical mandate.

Tehran says the attack was carried out in response to the Israeli strike on the Karun Petrochemical Company in southwestern Iran, targeting what it described as a comparable industrial site in Haifa.
The Israeli military says the air force completed an “extensive” wave of airstrikes against Iranian air defense systems; dozens of fighter jets targeted strategic air defense assets, including radar systems and surface-to-air missile launchers as Israel continues targeting Iranian military infrastructure.
The US bears “direct responsibility” for Israel’s ceasefire violations, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday, referring to the IDF’s strikes on Lebanon. He argued that Israel’s actions “cannot be viewed in isolation” from US policy.
Baghaei said Tehran, along with Pakistani mediators, has repeatedly stressed that Lebanon is “part and parcel” of the ceasefire arrangement and warned against attempts by Israel and the US to undermine this aspect of the deal.
He added that the latest developments will deepen Tehran’s distrust of Washington, saying Iran was already communicating with the US “in an atmosphere of extreme suspicion.” According to Baghaei, repeated US contradictions have created confusion in the diplomatic process, and “the events of the past 24 hours will only intensify that uncertainty.”
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it launched a missile strike on petrochemical facilities in Haifa in retaliation for what it described as a US-Israeli attack on an Iranian petrochemical site. The IRGC warned that Israeli strikes on civilian and energy infrastructure could expand the conflict to energy targets across the region, blaming the US for the fallout on the global economy.
Iranian officials earlier confirmed an Israeli strike on the Karun Petrochemical Company in the Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone. Mehr news agency reported no casualties, with damage assessments ongoing.

In a video statement posted on X, he claimed the IDF used prohibited weapons, including white phosphorus, in continued strikes on southern Lebanon and the outskirts of Beirut despite warnings from Tehran.
Zolfaghari cautioned that further attacks on Lebanon or retaliation against Iran would be met with “more crushing and regretful blows,” adding that “devastating campaigns” against Israel and its supporters would follow if the conflict widens.
“Iran is now singlehandedly challenging Israel and the United States. The era of America dictating the future of our region is over,” he wrote in a follow-up post.
Yemen’s Houthis say they are reinstating a ban on Israeli maritime navigation in the Red Sea, warning that Israel-linked vessels will once again be targeted in the key shipping corridor.
The group also claimed responsibility for earlier attacks on Israel and vowed to meet any further escalation with escalation.
The Israeli Home Front Command earlier said a ballistic missile launched by the Houthis toward central Israel was intercepted by the air force.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has condemned the Israeli strikes on Tehran and Lebanon, warning that Washington’s “green light” for the attacks makes US and Israeli assets in the region “legitimate targets” for Iran. In a post on X, he said Iran’s armed forces have “a free hand” to respond, accusing the US and Israel of sabotaging ceasefire efforts through a naval blockade and continued military action.
“They are neither committed to a ceasefire nor believe in dialogue, and demonstrate through the naval blockade and violation of agreements regarding Lebanon that they only understand the language of power,” Ghalibaf wrote on X.

“Each of them had their fun. Israel had its strike, and Iran had its strike. We don’t need another one,” Trump said.
Footage circulating online purports to show Iranian missiles soaring over eastern Lebanon, while some projectiles were observed from the Lebanese capital.
The IDF said that it identified multiple incoming projectiles and activated anti-aircraft defenses at multiple locations.
Iran said the attack was merely a “warning” to Israel and more “crushing blows” would follow should it continue with the attacks on Lebanon.
“If it expands its attacks in that region or responds to Iran’s action, it will be met with even more crushing and regrettable blows, and devastating attacks will be launched against the regime and its supporters,” Iran’s Khatim Al-Anbiya operational headquarters has said in a statement circulated by local media.
