Breathe in Peace, America

Published 28 May, 2026 08:27

Buddhist monks embark on a pilgrimage known as the ‘Walk for Peace’.

Setting out from Fort Worth, Texas, they walk to Washington, DC (around 3,700 km in 108 days), trudging through rain, snow, and wind.

Their route takes them along highways and through small towns, where people go out to the roadside to support the walk and share their hopes and fears.

The monks do not carry banners with slogans – only a bell and prayer accompany them on their way. Every strike of the bell rings out in quiet protest against hatred, violence, and the inner division that grips the nation.

The final destination is the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, where they conclude the pilgrimage with a collective prayer with everyone who has come to share in their journey.
